Mathematics has enormous potential for creativity, exploration, and problem-solving — but many students still experience it as static and uninspiring. Digital Escape Games can change that: they combine stories, puzzles, and teamwork to make learning exciting and meaningful. Yet despite their potential, these games are rarely used. Why? Teachers often lack ready-made materials, simple design tools, and ways to adapt games to their students’ needs.
AMAICE – Advancing Mathematics Education in Europe through AI-Driven Customizable Escape Games – adresses the barriers that prevent teachers from using digital Escape Games in mathematics education.
We are developing a free, web-based Escape Game Editor that makes it simple for teachers to create or adapt digital escape games — no programming skills required.
Powered by artificial intelligence, the editor lets students interact naturally with game characters and interactive mathematical visualizations – turning problem-solving into a dynamic, hands-on experience.
Beyond the tool itself, AMAICE builds an online database and community platform where teachers can share, discover, and review digital escape games. To support successful classroom use, the project also offers ready-made games as well as training materials, tutorial videos, and professional development workshops for teachers across Europe.
With AMAICE, mathematics becomes an adventure — one that sparks curiosity, collaboration, and confidence. By combining AI, storytelling, and European cooperation, the project helps teachers inspire a new generation of problem solvers.
